Successful 26th Annual Convention

2013 Nurse Administrator of the Year Award & Induction of New Officers Highlighted

West Palm Beach, Fla. — Florida Association Directors of Nursing Administration/LTC (FADONA) President Jean Nelson is very pleased to announce that the 26th Annual Convention “Carrying the Torch of Leadership 2013” was a resounding success. The convention, which was held at the Hilton Daytona Beach Oceanfront Resort from April 22-25, 2013, witnessed a great number of attendees from the state of Florida and beyond. The convention gathered together more than 300 attendees, speakers, and exhibitors from around the country.

One of the main highlights of the convention each year is the highly anticipated Annual Awards Luncheon. The annual luncheon featured the 2013 FADONA Awards presentation which included the Nurse Administrator of the Year Award sponsored by Evercare, and the CNA/LPN Awards of Excellence sponsored by RB Health Partners. This is the 10th straight year that Evercare has sponsored the Nurse Administrator of the Year Award and the third year that RB Health Partners has sponsored the CNA/LPN Awards.

Each year, FADONA acknowledges a nurse administrator who has demonstrated a high degree of professionalism by mentoring and nurturing, as well as commitment to the standards of nursing practice and excellence in long-term care.

The 2013 winner of the Nurse Administrator of the Year Award is Marie-Rose Dydynski, the DON at The Springs at Boca Ciega Bay in St. Petersburg. On hand from Evercare to present the award were Dr. Wanda Bryant, Dr. Gregory James, and Dr. Robert Kaplan, alongside Marie-Rose’s administrator, Joseph Mingione.

“FADONA would like to congratulate Marie-Rose for her intense dedication to her patients and the field of LTC nursing,” Cruz said. “The Nurse Administrator of the Year award was created to recognize outstanding nurse leaders, and Marie-Rose certainly qualifies. Congratulations to Marie-Rose on all of her hard work”

FADONA also presented its CNA and LPN Awards of Excellence. The awards recognize certified nursing assistants (CNAs) and licensed practical nurses (LPNs) across the state of Florida. This year’s winner of the CNA Award of Excellence is Latrina Clemons from Life Care Center of Sarasota. She received a plaque recognizing her achievement and a check for $500. The winner of the LPN Award of Excellence is Enz Dimanche, an LPN at Palm Garden of Port St. Lucie. He also received a plaque recognizing his achievement and a check for $500.  FADONA is very proud of this year’s worthy recipients of the CNA, LPN, and Nurse Administrator of the Year awards.

During the annual luncheon the Imogene Ward Nursing Scholarship Award is also presented. The Imogene Ward Scholarship was created to honor the memory of a true long-term care leader, Imogene Ward. Imogene’s husband, Homer, and two sons, Mike and Jeff, established this scholarship fund in 2008 in her memory.

This year’s Imogene Ward Nursing Scholarship Award winner is Lissette Caro, an LPN at Glenmoor Skilled Nursing Home in St. Augustine. Presenting the scholarship award on behalf of the Ward Family were Dr. Gregory James, president of the Florida Osteopathic Medical Association; and Dr. Robert Kaplan, president-elect of the Florida Medical Directors Association. On hand to help accept the award and a check for $2,000 was Lissette Caro, her facility’s DON Jennifer Futral, and administrator Kendall Bryan.

FADONA installed new officers and region vice-presidents at this year’s convention. New officers include President, Jean Nelson; 1st Vice-President, Susie Jensvold; 2nd Vice-President, Norma Collins; Secretary, Carla Russo; and Treasurer, Reuben Bowie. New and returning Region Vice-Presidents are: Region I, Sharyn Figgins; Region III, Debra Coy; Region IV, Betty Barron; Region V, Kim Joynes; Region VI, Sheila Mangrum; and Region VII, Amina Dubuisson.
